The FIPS Encryption Security Option adds strong cryptographic functionality that can be used in Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) 140-2 compliant products. It adds strong encryption to both data storage and communication. Support is included for Transport Layer Security (TLS) v1.0 communications. TLS operates over TCP/IP and uses RSA for the key exchange, Advanced Encryption Standard (AES), 128-bit or 256-bit, for encryption and SHA-1 (Secure Hash Algorithm) for message authentication. These cipher suites are referred to as AES128-SHA and AES256-SHA
The FIPS Encryption Security Option is an optional, separately purchased, add-on component to Advantage Database Server v10.1 or newer and is not available by default with Advantage. Earlier server versions include data and communication encryption functionality based on the RC4 algorithm. Additional information on Advantage encryption functionality is detailed in the data sheet referenced below.
