The FIPS Encryption Security Option adds strong cryptographic functionality that can be used in Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) 140-2 compliant products. It adds strong encryption to both data storage and communication. Support is included for Transport Layer Security (TLS) v1.0 communications. TLS operates over TCP/IP and uses RSA for the key exchange, Advanced Encryption Standard (AES), 128-bit or 256-bit, for encryption and SHA-1 (Secure Hash Algorithm) for message authentication. These cipher suites are referred to as AES128-SHA and AES256-SHA
The FIPS Encryption Security Option is an optional, separately purchased, add-on component to Advantage Database Server v10.1 or newer and is not available by default with Advantage. Earlier server versions include data and communication encryption functionality based on the RC4 algorithm.
